The San Francisco Chopin Foundation presents all-Chopin Gala Concert and Reception on Sunday, February 24 at 2:00 at Old First Church (1751 Sacramento and Van Ness).
 
The program features musicians from the Bay Area and beyond, and includes MTAC-SF members Thomas Schultz, Robert Schwartz, and William Wellborn, as well Hilda Huang (a student of John MCCarthy) and Hugo Kitano (a student of William Wellborn).
 
General admission is $15, and $12 for seniors, students, Chopin Foundation members, and MTAC teachers.
 
Hugo Kitano received 4th prize (encouragement award) in the ASIA Chopin Competition, held last month in Tokyo. Hugo is a student of William Wellborn.
 
On February 11, William Wellborn will present a workshop for the Alameda MTAC entitled "Singing and Dancing with Scarlattti."

He recently gave a presentation and workshop on Scarlatti for the Maryland MTA in Montgomery County, and earlier this month he performed works by Schumann-Liszt at the Great Romantics Festival in Hamilton, Canada.
 
This past summer MTAC-SF Branch students Andrew Win, Vien Nguyen, and Yiren Lu attended the Franz Liszt Summer Piano Academy and Festival in Sopron, Hungary, and perfromed on concerts in Hungary and Austria.

New CD

Pianist Diana Pacini and cellist David Chen have combined talents in an all-Bach CD. Featured is Suite No.1 in G Major (with accompaniment arranged by Piatti). Other selections include Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Arioso, Ave Maria, and Sonata Allegro (Fugue).

NEW CD

Member Barbara Bannett is one of the accompanists on a new recording entitled

"Beautiful Soup."

Her son, acclaimed young singer Michael Bannett, sings 18 songs on the album.

The selections are mostly Classical, with a sprinkling of British Isles folk songs and a few show tunes. Other accompanists on the CD include Ian Robertson, director of the S.F. Opera Chorus, Barbara Riccardi, violinist with the S.F. Opera Orchestra, and well-known Bay Area harpist Michael Rado.
