After School Keyboard Education Program

Our branch has been sponsoring an after-school keyboard program in the elementary schools for over fifty years. These group lessons, minimally priced, in some case fully or partially subsidized, introduce children to the world of music via training on the keyboard. Many of the youngsters who began in our classes go on the private study and become outstanding musicians. At the end of the school year, high achievers perform at the After School Keyboard Education Recital.

The fully or partially subsidized classes are funded by Ross McKee Foundation and the Crescent Porter Hale Foundation. This program has not only created joy for the children, but also helped out member pianists in establishing a living in San Francisco.
